Eventing Breeding Program

Selection Criteria for mares

No pedigree requirements are in place. Mares can be either passported Hanoverian/Rhineland or another WFBSH studbook that are classified with HHSA. Mares must be classified into the Hanoverian or Rhineland studbook or main studbook. [Noting mares with direct studbook entry will not qualify without classification.]

Mares can earn and apply for prestigious star designations to be added to the EBP symbol based on their own performance and performance of their offspring. This designation will be visible on her pedigree and pedigree documents for her offspring.

All offspring used for competition records for computation of three-stars must be registered with an approved WBFSH studbook.

The Eventing Breeding Program is a world first for Hanoverian organisations with the idea presented to the Verband in 2025. The HHSA is excited and proud to encourage and reward the breeding of quality Hanoverian and Rhineland eventing horses in Australia where eventing has been a strength for many years.

Designation with one star (EBP*) is awarded on the basis of the mare’s own performance in the mare performance test or at the sport test.

▪ A score for free jumping (average of technique, scope and jumping intelligence) of 7.5 or better as well as a minimum score of 7.5 for paces and score for 7.5 in rideability.

▪ 1-10th Placing at an EA recognised One day or Three day events at 80cm level with a penalty score of 35 or less as a 4 or 5YO.

Designation with two stars (EBP**) is awarded on the basis of own performance in Eventing sport. Own sport successes:

▪ Three placings of 1-5 at EA/FEI recognised 2 Three day eventing events

▪ Placing of 1 – 10 in an FEI/EA recognised Young Eventing Horse Class as a 4, 5 or 6 year old with an overall score over 70%.

▪ Qualification for the Bundeschampionat/Eventing World Championships for Young
Horses

Designation with three stars (EBP***) is awarded on the basis of offspring success in
sport. Two offspring with one of the following successes each are required:

▪ An offspring with a Qualification for the Bundeschampionat/ Eventing World Championships for Young Horses

▪ An offspring with placing of 1 – 10 in an FEI/EA recognised Young Eventing Horse Class as a 4, 5 or 6 year old with an overall score over 70%

▪ An offspring with a placing of 1-10 in 3* Three Day Event.

If the mare achieves the one* requirements during the HHSA tour’s MPT, no application is necessary.
Otherwise, there is an application fee of $35 which covers verifying results, modifying pedigree in our database, and preparing and sending a label sticker for the mare’s passport. Their names will be affixed with the according Star* designation, which will then appear in any offspring’s pedigree.
